In December, we administered the Tree Of Lights outside Morrisons where members of the public can dedicate lights to remember loved ones over the festive season.

In addition several Rotarians braved sub-zero temperatures and snow to stand in Morrison's Foyer to collect money and give out forms to boost our Tree of LIghts Charity Collection.

We raised over £1000 which has been shared between

Hope House and our local MenCap.

BUDDY BAG PACK, BUFFET AND CHAT

Our second Buddy Bag Pack at the MenCap Building was far more efficient than our first!

Leaving plenty of time to enjoy a buffet and chat!

We enjoyed an interesting talk from trustees of Drayton Action for Health - a local charity - set up in 1999 - to administer funds collected by Market Drayton Cottage Hospital League of Friends upon the closure of the cottage hospital.  Their primary aim is to help residents of Market Drayton and nearby villages in need of health or convalescence care not available on the NHS.

They may be able to purchase medical equipment, help towards travelling expenses for hospital appointments, provide funds to help alleviate suffering and enhance lifestyles.

To contact the charity, email Mrs. Janet Davies on janetd1507@aol.com to obtain an application form.

ROTARY YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION

Congratulations to all the young artists who entered our first Rotary Young Artist Competition.  The independent judges were very impressed with the quality of the entries and picked a worthy winner and their picture will go through to the District competition which will be judged early next year.

Snooker

ROTARY YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION

Dementia and Start a Heart

Market Drayton Rotary Club played Wem and District Rotary Club in the first round of the District Snooker Competition.  We enjoyed a buffet supper and an evening of laughter and chatter at Adderley Village Hall - huge thanks to Carol and Phil for manning the bar for us.

Wem were worthy winners and will progress to the next round.

Dementia and Start a Heart

ROTARY YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION

Dementia and Start a Heart

In order to support our community, members have taken part in Dementia Training and have also attended a drop in session organised by our local St. John's Ambulance group to learn to do CPR and how to use a Defibrillator.

ORUNA CHARITY NIGHT

Members invited guests to a curry evening at the Oruna Indian Restaurant and raised more than £400 for our Buddy Bags appeal.  This - and other generous donations - mean we will be able to fill 30 buddy bags in December and have two further bag packs next year.

October Meeting

Members enjoyed a talk by John Graham from Remap - a charity which enables volunteers to provide bespoke solutions for disabled people.

John showed examples of equipment made by volunteers to help people meet particular needs from modified bicycles to gadgets to help people unlock doors.  More information at:

GINGER & SPICE 2023

In September Rotarians supported Ginger and Spice by helping with putting up and taking down signs, stewarding on the day and holding a tombola stall which raised funds for our Rotary Charities.

School Sewing Project

Youth Rep, Denise McGowan, first sourced and refurbished 3 sewing machines which she (and Janey Manton) took into two local primary schools and taught Year 6 students to use them and made pillows decorated with applique.  The students had a wonderful time - and Jane and Denise enjoyed themselves too!
