Public Transport is a big problem in Market Drayton and The Community Car is one way that people can get around.
One of our Rotary Members is volunteering and driving the car. There is a need for more drivers.
Members are helping out on Saturday afternoons at MenCap.
More volunteers would be most welcome!
Drayton Action for Health is a local charity - set up in 1999 - to administer funds collected by Market Drayton Cottage Hospital League of Friends upon the closure of the cottage hospital.
Their primary aim is to help residents of Market Drayton and nearby villages in need of health or convalescence care not available on the NHS.They may be able to purchase medical equipment, help towards travelling expenses for hospital appointments, provide funds to help alleviate suffering and enhance lifestyles. To contact the charity, email Mrs. Janet Davies on janetd1507@aol.com to obtain an application form.
Mary’s Meals serves nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest countries. The promise of a good meal attracts these hungry children into the classroom, giving them the energy to learn and hope for a better future.
We are already feeding more than 2.4 million children every school day – and together, we can reach the next hungry child waiting for Mary’s Meals.

Hope House Children’s Hospices is a charity that gives every local child with a life-threatening condition and their family access to professional care and improves their quality of life from the point of diagnosis. They support more than 750 families who are either caring for a terminally ill child, or whose child has died. It costs £9.6 million every year to run their services. Approximately two month’s income comes from statutory sources and for other 10 months of the year they are dependent on public support.
Last year the Market Drayton Rotary Tree of Lights campaign raised nearly £2000 for Hope House and Ty Gobaith - this year we would like to raise more.
The Buddy Bag Foundation was founded in 2015 to help make a difference to children entering emergency care. 48,000 children require emergency care every year in the UK. Often their families have to leave home without packing anything and children arrive in the refuge with nothing. We supply these children with a Buddy Bag containing essential items to help restore a sense of comfort and love.
Buddy Bags are tailored to suit babies, children and young people according to age groups and gender and include necessaries like toiletries, pyjamas, socks and underwear and school supplies - as well as comfort items such as a book and a teddy bear.
The Buddy Bag Foundation is run by a team of volunteers and ambassadors so that 100% of the money we raise goes to the cause which meshes well with Rotary - where all our admin costs are paid for by membership fees so 100% of money or items donated to us goes to the charity it is collected for. We also enjoy organising social events to do a Buddy Bag Pack - providing opportunity for volunteers to get hands-on, support the cause and have fun!
