Charity Gala - Hope House Ball.
Great company - fabulous bands - wonderful surroundings and lots of fun and dancing. A chance to dress up and raise money for a worthy cause!

The Hope House event started with breakfast at Ty Gobaith and a classic car drive out to Ellesmere College where the cars were displayed and various stalls and fund raising activities were organised in aid of Hope House. Market Drayton Rotary members were present with classic cars and others manned stalls selling Tranquil Still Gin and also a second hand book stall. Newcastle Rotary raffled a wheelbarrow of booze! Overall the event was very successful and raised a lot of money to support Hope House.

Three hard fought rounds culminated in the final at The Four Alls where 11 teams of 4 battled it out over 10 rounds and - after a tie breaker (The height of a competition Basketball Hoop?) - Wellington B came 3rd, Newcastle were second and the team from Audley Rotary (pictured) were triumphant winners.
Thank you to all the teams who competed throughout the competition - especially to those who hosted rounds - to all the question setters, quiz masters, scorers and supporters who made the competition so much fun! Entries for the 2025 District Quiz should be submitted in September!

Local Rotarians organised a canal boat trip from Adderley Locks to The Wharf to entertain our Dutch Visitors who are staying in the area as part of a Vocational Study Exchange Programme.
The visitors experienced British weather, braved the muddy towpath, opened locks and enjoyed their visit to a traditional British pub.

With match funding, we hope to be able to turn that sum into £660 which will be spent to End Polio and contribute to other important causes. Rotary Foundation's slogan is Doing Good In The World and apart from the famous End Polio Now campaign (look for purple crocuses in spring and purple flags in October!) they also work with local people, Promoting Peace, Fighting Disease, Providing Clean Water, Supporting Education, Saving Mothers and Children, Growing Local Economies and Supporting The Environment. The Buddy Bag Foundation was founded in 2015 to help make a difference to children entering emergency care and, in the UK, every year, 48,000 children require emergency care. We are supporting the charity to supply these children with a Buddy Bag containing essential items to help restore a sense of comfort and love. Members have raised funds, donated items, sewn bags, knitted teddies and got together to have fun packing the bags.
Thank you to our speaker – Paul Tanner – at our Speaker Meeting on 4th March - for his beautiful pictures and his interesting presentation on Sun, Steam & Serenity which took us on a journey around Shropshire and a few other places.
