The Barrow of Booze raffled at this year's Ginger and Spice Festival was won by Mr Eglis.  He was thrilled when Club President, Mike Whitaker, took the prize round to his house.  He had thought he might just have won one bottle but he was thrilled with the selection of bottles and mixers.  Time for a party!

Huge thanks to everyone who supported our stall at Ginger and Spice.  We ran a tombola to raise money for Rotary Charities and also raffled a Barrow of Booze (just the booze - a few people said they would have preferred the barrow!)

Members also helped with the organisation of the event, put up signs and stewarded - especially manning the barricades  to keep the street closed and safe from traffic.

Everyone agreed that the Festival was bigger and better this year and we all enjoyed the dancers and the fabulous entertainment.

Our social meeting for September was dedicated to packing Buddy Bags for The Buddy Bag Foundation who provide rucksacks filled with essential items for children who have  gone  into emergency care.
Past-President, Teresa Tanner,  asked guests at an Afternoon Tea to celebrate her Big Birthday to donate items that could be used to fill Buddy Bags.  Thanks to her amazing family and friends, we had enough items to fill 15 bags for children asked 0-2years, 8 for girls aged 13-16 years and 7 badges for boys aged 13-16 years.  Happy Birthday Teresa!

SYA SPEAKER MEETING

FINNISH EXCHANGE VISIT

A big thank you for a very interesting talk from Richard Parkes, CEO of SYA and William Falcus who runs the local, Market Drayton Youth Club.

The group have already had volunteers helping to raise money for SYA by selling cakes at Cherry Trees and we hope to work more closely with SYA in the future.

Our Club President, Teresa Tanner, presented Paul and William with Club Pennants.

FINNISH EXCHANGE VISIT

Market Drayton Rotary hosted Finnish Rotarians visiting on a Rotary Business Exchange.  We entertained our visitors with a boat trip, bowling and sightseeing as well as providing opportunities for insights into local business.  On the final evening, the visitors were presented with our distinctive gingerbread pennants to take back to their clubs in Finland with our good wishes.

FINNISH EXCHANGE VISIT

Candice Danleigh - the local co-ordinator for Read Easy came to speak at our April Speaker Meeting.  Members were sorry to hear how many adults struggle with literacy issues.  A couple of members are looking into becoming Read Easy volunteers and the group is planning a fundraising activity to help with the service that is free to those who need it.

The event was for everybody and attracted men as well as women.

All day there were stalls, workshops and talks - all on a theme of empowering women and - although the event deserved more attendance - those who did attend found a lot to interest them.

A big thank you to Market Drayton Woman's Institute who provided refreshments and a fabulous array of cakes!

ART THERAPY SESSION

ART THERAPY SESSION

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY - 8TH MARCH

We were very fortunate that, when a speaker was unable to attend our January meeting, one of our own members, Denise McGowan, could step in and deliver a brilliant session on Art Therapy.

Members were interested to hear how Art Therapy is used in a variety of settings and we also got to practice our own session and create dandelion clock pictures.
